PET PARTNERS® THERAPY HANDLER WORKSHOP*
(*Human end of the leash training, no pets please)

This is the official workshop for the Pet Partners Program and fulfills the handler-training requirements for you and your dog to take the Pet Partners evaluation.   
 
This 8-hour session will cover:
common staff concerns regarding visiting animal programs;
working with clients;
identifying stress in your animal;
the development of your skills as a therapy animal handler;
the skills and aptitude requirements for animals in a wide variety of settings;
Pet Partners requirements;
the registration process; and
the Pet Partners Team Evaluation process.
 
Fee includes the Pet Partners Handler Manual, certification of completion (necessary in order to participate in the Pet Partners Team Evaluation), as well as morning and afternoon snacks. 
There will be a one-hour break for lunch on your own.
 
Note:  This workshop is for handlers only.  Please do not bring your animals.
Animals are on-site with permission of the instructor.
 
Open to age 10 years and older (children under 14 must have a parent or guardian accompany them.)
 
Class cost: $125 per handler (includes manual and evaluation)
                 $25 2nd person in family (2nd person will not receive manual)

Pet Partners® Team Evaluations



 
 
For those who have already completed training and either the in-person (as noted above) or the Pet Partners on-line course, or for those seeking re-registration, we offer Pet Partners evaluations throughout the year by appointment.   Each team will be evaluated for the skills and aptitude required for participation in therapy animal programs in the community.  The evaluation takes approximately 30-45 minutes and is administered by a certified Pet Partners Team Evaluator.
 
PLEASE NOTE:
To be evaluated, handlers must have
completed either the Pet Partners on-line course or in-person workshop and obtained a certificate of completion
a copy of the certificate of completion  (requirement for new teams only, not required for re-registration teams)
the completed Handler's Questionnaire
the animal's current rabies vaccination certificate
the signed Pet Partners Volunteer Agreement  (if handler is under 18, parent or guardian must sign the form)
a towel or small blanket if the animal is to be carried
a brush which would be appropriate for visiting
animals that are at least one year of age
bring their animal to the testing site on appropriate equipment (acceptable collar or harness with acceptable leash)
and maintain physical control of your animal at all times while at the testing site
